Grading

The CHHS Video Production courses use a business model for instruction and grading.    For the majority of the year, the courses are group-based learning which stress accountability, improving social skills, problem-solving, collaboration, respect, tolerance, professionalism, and teamwork.

In addition to tests and quizzes, students will be placed into groups and will receive a group productivity grade, a personal productivity grade, a professionalism grade, a participation/effort grade, and a project grade.  Groups are given a virtual budget of $100,000.00 and their groups' efforts, professionalism, and productivity will cause their budget to go up or down accordingly. The amount that is left in their budget at the end of each quarter will translate into their group's grade.  For example, $92,000 = 92 or A-.  That 92 or A- will be averaged into how they performed personally.

For some, the group portion of the grade may take a while to get used to because many of the classes they have taken previously were set up for only individual progress assessment.  Students will always be able to improve their individual grade by putting in extra time and work during their free time...but they are still accountable to their group and their group is accountable to them.
